About This Location
Constellation Drive is one of the North Shore's main arterial links, carrying around 26,400 vehicles a day between East Coast Road and the State Highway 1 motorway interchange. That makes this intersection a pressure point. Traffic turning right onto East Coast Road regularly backs up all the way to Apollo Drive, blocking left-turning vehicles and creating the kind of stop-start frustration that tempts people to push through late yellows. Auckland Transport has flagged the intersection as extremely unsafe for cyclists and pedestrians too. A T2 transit lane now operates on the southern side of Constellation Drive during afternoon peak hours to keep buses and carpoolers moving, but the sheer volume of commuter traffic funnelling between the motorway, the Northern Busway station, and the residential suburbs along East Coast Road means this spot stays busy.

This is a red light camera located at a signalised intersection in the Auckland region. It uses induction loops buried in the road to detect vehicles that cross the stop line after the traffic signal has turned red. Red light cameras help reduce the severity of intersection crashes, which often result in serious injuries.
