About This Location
Sitting on a rural stretch of Waiuku Road near Colombo Road, this camera went live in mid-2023 as part of nine new Auckland cameras under the Road to Zero programme. Waka Kotahi flagged the site for its high crash risk and history of fatal and injury crashes. The road runs through open Franklin farmland between Pukekohe and Waiuku with an 80 km/h limit, reduced from 100 km/h around 2020. That speed limit drop proved deeply unpopular locally. In early 2024, three cameras around Waiuku were vandalised in a single week, with one appearing to have been shot at. Some locals openly celebrated. Drivers on Reddit have noted the constantly shifting limits on the drive to Waiuku ("it's 80, then 60, then 80, then 50, then 80") make the whole corridor frustrating, and others report that drivers use back roads like Masters Road to avoid the main route's cameras entirely.

How This Camera Works
This is a fixed spot speed camera that measures your instantaneous speed as you pass using radar technology. If your speed exceeds the posted limit, the camera captures an image of your vehicle and number plate. Spot speed cameras are the most common type across the Auckland region and operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
