About This Location

Te Atatu Road is one of West Auckland's busiest corridors, carrying around 38,000 vehicles a day to and from the Northwestern Motorway. The intersection with McLeod Road sits at a key junction where Te Atatu South's residential streets meet a route linking through to Henderson. It's got a rough history. In February 2023, a cyclist was seriously injured in a crash between McLeod Road and Divich Avenue during morning rush hour, closing the road and forcing bus detours. A fatal truck-and-car collision in 2016 happened nearby on Te Atatu Road at Roberts Road, with traffic diverted through McLeod Road. Auckland Transport has been working on safety improvements across Te Atatu South for years, including speed management, raised intersections, and T2 lanes to manage the growing congestion.

How This Camera Works

This is a red light camera located at a signalised intersection in the Auckland region. It uses induction loops buried in the road to detect vehicles that cross the stop line after the traffic signal has turned red. Red light cameras help reduce the severity of intersection crashes, which often result in serious injuries.
