About This Location
This intersection sits right near the Northern Motorway on-ramp, and it's earned a reputation as one of Auckland's most prolific red light camera spots. In its first 12 months of operation from mid-2018, the camera raked in close to $650,000 in fines, making it the highest-earning red light camera in the country. It was one of the original six cameras activated in Auckland back in June 2018. The AA publicly questioned whether something was wrong with the intersection itself after it issued 2,000 tickets in just four months, with advisor Barney Irvine saying "you're just not getting the right road safety result." Auckland Transport admitted it was a "high infringement zone" and planned to add overhead traffic lights and flashing studs in the road to make the red signal harder to miss. But the numbers stayed high. In a later reporting period it was still Auckland's worst camera-enforced intersection, topping the city with 1,386 tickets in a single year.

How This Camera Works
This is a red light camera located at a signalised intersection in the Auckland region. It uses induction loops buried in the road to detect vehicles that cross the stop line after the traffic signal has turned red. Red light cameras help reduce the severity of intersection crashes, which often result in serious injuries.
