About This Location
This was one of Auckland's first two digital speed cameras, going live in December 2014 as part of a $10 million national rollout targeting roads with the worst crash records. The broader Mill Road corridor recorded over 300 crashes between 2007 and 2011, killing five people and injuring 95. A fatal car-truck crash on this stretch in 2012 killed a woman and left two toddlers with serious injuries. In 2023, the AA reported the Mill Road camera in Counties Manukau was the highest-grossing speed camera in the entire country, pulling in $2.57 million in fines over 12 months. Mill Road is part of a planned $1.3 billion corridor upgrade that'll eventually widen the road to four lanes between Manukau and Drury, but that's years away from reaching this section.

How This Camera Works
This is a fixed spot speed camera that measures your instantaneous speed as you pass using radar technology. If your speed exceeds the posted limit, the camera captures an image of your vehicle and number plate. Spot speed cameras are the most common type across the Auckland region and operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
