About This Location
Cavendish Drive is one of south Auckland's busiest arterial roads, and this intersection sits right at the entrance to the Manukau Supa Centa, a large retail hub with Kmart, Briscoes, and other big-box stores. Heavy shopper traffic mixing with commuters makes it a congested spot, particularly during afternoons and weekends. The broader Cavendish Drive corridor has a grim crash history. A pedestrian was killed on the road in 2022, and in 2017 a driver ran a red light at the nearby Great South Rd and Cavendish Dr intersection at 120 km/h during a police pursuit, killing himself and injuring seven others. Auckland Transport reported 83 fatalities or serious injuries from red-light running across Auckland between 2014 and 2018, and cameras along Cavendish Drive were part of the response. The Lambie Drive interchange nearby was actually one of the first three red light camera sites in the country when the technology went live in April 2015.

This is a red light camera located at a signalised intersection in the Auckland region. It uses induction loops buried in the road to detect vehicles that cross the stop line after the traffic signal has turned red. Red light cameras help reduce the severity of intersection crashes, which often result in serious injuries.
