About This Location
The Lambie Drive interchange area was one of the first locations in New Zealand to get a red light camera, going live on April 30, 2015, alongside two other sites in Botany and Wellington. Before the camera arrived, the intersection had a real history of red light running crashes. In its first nine months of operation, the camera caught 648 motorists running the red. That number actually climbed to 849 in 2016 before dropping to 521 the following year, suggesting the camera took a while to change driver behaviour at this spot. The intersection sits right in the Wiri industrial zone, where heavy vehicle traffic from nearby factories and warehouses mixes with commuters connecting to the SH20 and SH1 motorways. Lambie Drive itself has seen some ugly incidents over the years, including a fleeing driver who crashed into a stationary truck at a nearby Lambie Drive intersection in late 2024.

This is a red light camera located at a signalised intersection in the Auckland region. It uses induction loops buried in the road to detect vehicles that cross the stop line after the traffic signal has turned red. Red light cameras help reduce the severity of intersection crashes, which often result in serious injuries.
