About This Location
This intersection sits right in the heart of Manukau City Centre, where Great South Road meets Te Irirangi Drive near the SH1 off-ramp. It's a busy spot. AUT's South Campus is just metres away, and the surrounding area is packed with commercial activity including Countdown and PB Tech. Te Irirangi Drive was built to handle up to 40,000 vehicles a day, so the volume of traffic funnelling through here is substantial. Great South Road through Manukau has a troubling crash history, with multiple serious incidents reported at intersections along this stretch. Auckland's red light camera trial showed a 43% drop in red light running and a 63% decrease in related crashes, and this camera is one of several installed along Great South Road (others sit at Cavendish Drive and Reagan Road) to tackle what's clearly a problem corridor. A single-vehicle crash on Te Irirangi Drive in April 2024 killed one person, adding to the case for enforcement at this location.

This is a red light camera located at a signalised intersection in the Auckland region. It uses induction loops buried in the road to detect vehicles that cross the stop line after the traffic signal has turned red. Red light cameras help reduce the severity of intersection crashes, which often result in serious injuries.
