About This Location

Linwood Road is a semi-rural two-lane road running through lifestyle properties and farmland in south Auckland, and it's got a dark crash history. In June 2017, a taxi van crashed here, killing a 48-year-old woman and seriously injuring a 3-year-old child. In February 2020, off-duty police Constable Naomi McRae was killed when her car collided with a truck on Linwood Road while she was driving to start her shift. There have been other serious incidents too, including a tanker-car collision and a single-vehicle crash into a power pole. The camera went in mid-2023 as one of nine new NK-7 units rolled out across Auckland under Waka Kotahi's Road to Zero strategy, targeting roads where drivers were regularly clocked at 30 to 60 percent over the 80 km/h limit. The area's changing fast, with the Karaka North Village development going in at the Linwood and Dyke Road intersection, and a speed limit reduction is on its way for that stretch.

How This Camera Works

This is a fixed spot speed camera that measures your instantaneous speed as you pass using radar technology. If your speed exceeds the posted limit, the camera captures an image of your vehicle and number plate. Spot speed cameras are the most common type across the Auckland region and operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
