About This Location
Te Irirangi Drive was built in the early 2000s as an 80 km/h road connecting Flat Bush, Botany, and Manukau, and it's one of east Auckland's busiest corridors. The Accent Drive intersection sits right where the road widens to two lanes then narrows back to one, creating a bottleneck that handles up to 17,000 vehicles a day. Auckland Transport installed red light cameras here in both directions as part of the city's wider rollout, after an earlier trial showed a 43% drop in red-light running and a 69% decrease in related crashes. A fatal two-car crash happened on this stretch of Te Irirangi Drive in 2018, about 500 metres north of Accent Drive.

This is a red light camera located at a signalised intersection in the Auckland region. It uses induction loops buried in the road to detect vehicles that cross the stop line after the traffic signal has turned red. Red light cameras help reduce the severity of intersection crashes, which often result in serious injuries.
