About This Location
Between 2014 and 2018, there were 160 crashes along Dairy Flat Highway, killing six people and seriously injuring 22. NZTA ranked it in the top 1% of roads needing safety investment. The speed limit was dropped from 100 to 80 km/h (and 60 km/h near intersections), a $10 million roundabout replaced the notoriously dangerous Coatesville-Riverhead junction, and a local board member collected over 1,000 signatures on a petition pushing for change. But drivers kept pushing the limit. Before the camera arrived, vehicles were regularly clocked doing 30 to 60% over the 80 km/h speed limit. The NK-7 camera went live in mid-2023 as one of nine new units installed across Auckland under Road to Zero, and a pair of average speed cameras on nearby Pine Valley Road are following in 2026.

How This Camera Works
This is a fixed spot speed camera that measures your instantaneous speed as you pass using radar technology. If your speed exceeds the posted limit, the camera captures an image of your vehicle and number plate. Spot speed cameras are the most common type across the Auckland region and operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
