About This Location

Papakura-Clevedon Road is a semi-rural two-lane road linking Papakura to Clevedon village, carrying about 5,000 vehicles a day plus roughly 540 truck movements. The 80 km/h zone here runs right past Ardmore School, which drops to 40 km/h during school hours. A police report on the school's stretch specifically called for more enforcement to prevent a serious injury or death. The road has a grim recent history. In August 2022, a single-vehicle crash at 1am killed one person and left three with moderate injuries. In April 2025, another driver left the road and went into a creek, dying at the scene. The camera was installed in mid-2023 as one of nine new NK-7 units rolled out across Auckland under Waka Kotahi's Road to Zero strategy, targeting roads where drivers were regularly clocked well above the 80 km/h limit.

How This Camera Works

This is a fixed spot speed camera that measures your instantaneous speed as you pass using radar technology. If your speed exceeds the posted limit, the camera captures an image of your vehicle and number plate. Spot speed cameras are the most common type across the Auckland region and operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
