Do speed camera fines come with demerit points?

No, NZTA does not issue demerit points for safety camera infringements. This is a key difference from being stopped by a Police officer, where demerit points do apply. Camera fines are financial penalties only. However, demerit points are assigned if you are stopped by Police—10 points for up to 10 km/h over, 20 for 10-20 km/h, 35 for 20-30 km/h, 40 for 30-35 km/h, and 50 for over 35 km/h.
