About This Location
Camera B sits at the Matakana end of the 4.9 km corridor, near 789 Matakana Road close to the Wright Road intersection. It's the second half of the pair that makes up NZ's first average speed camera system. Your speed isn't measured at either camera alone. Instead, the two cameras record when you pass each one and calculate your average over the full distance between them. This end of the corridor has a rough history. In March 2021, a driver died in a single-car rollover between Oak River Drive and Wright Road, right near where Camera B now stands. Two months earlier, a multi-vehicle crash involving two trucks left a woman airlifted to hospital with serious injuries. A 2025 speed survey found 74% of drivers exceeding the 80 km/h limit on this stretch, with average speeds around 90 km/h. Auckland Transport is now doing physical safety upgrades near Camera B's position too, including wider centrelines and high-friction surfacing at the Wright Road intersection, all due for completion by mid-2026.

How This Camera Works
This is an average speed (point-to-point) camera in the Auckland region. It works with a partner camera to calculate your average speed over a distance. Unlike spot speed cameras, you cannot simply slow down at the camera location -- your average speed over the entire corridor must be within the speed limit.
