See nzta.govt.nz/driver-licences/driving-offences-and-penalties/demerit-points for details.

What happens if I speed more than 40 km/h over the limit?

Speeding by more than 40 km/h over the limit can result in a 28-day licence suspension in addition to the fine. If you exceed 50 km/h over the limit, your case goes to court and you may face charges of careless, dangerous or reckless driving with more severe penalties. These apply whether caught by camera or by Police.
