About This Location
This is the Shamrock Park end of Whitford Road's new average speed camera pair, one of the sites in NZTA's 2026 rollout, working with a matching camera roughly 3.5 kilometres away near Whitford village. Paired Redflex Halo units time each vehicle between the two points and calculate an average speed across the whole stretch in both directions, rather than catching a single moment of speed. Whitford Road was first named back in 2023, when Waka Kotahi and Auckland Transport picked it as one of six rural roads with a high crash risk linked to road layout and travel speeds, alongside Matakana Road in Warkworth and Glenbrook Road further south. It took more than two years from that announcement to enforcement, with the system gazetted by the Director of Land Transport on 9 April 2026. Shamrock Park is one of Auckland's more affluent, larger-house suburbs, and this end of the road sits close to the fast-growing Flat Bush and Ormiston area.

How This Camera Works
This is an average speed (point-to-point) camera in the Auckland region. It works with a partner camera to calculate your average speed over a distance. Unlike spot speed cameras, you cannot simply slow down at the camera location -- your average speed over the entire corridor must be within the speed limit.
