About This Location
The second camera in the Glenbrook Road East pair, several kilometres from its partner near Karaka, went live alongside the rest of NZTA's Glenbrook Road cameras on June 23, 2026. NZTA announced the activation on social media beforehand, telling drivers plainly: "exceeding the speed limit is illegal. If you travel at or below the speed limit, you won't be fined." The system measures how long a vehicle takes to travel between this camera and its partner, so a single quick burst of speed doesn't matter if the average across the whole stretch stays under the limit. Not everyone in Franklin welcomed the new cameras. Gary Holmes, the Franklin Local Board member for the Waiuku subdivision, called the concentration of cameras on Glenbrook Road bewildering, pointing out that five years of enforcement and $3.5 million in fines between 2020 and 2025 hadn't produced a clear drop in serious crashes. He pushed for a delay until a proper road audit was done. NZTA pressed ahead regardless.

How This Camera Works
This is an average speed (point-to-point) camera in the Auckland region. It works with a partner camera to calculate your average speed over a distance. Unlike spot speed cameras, you cannot simply slow down at the camera location -- your average speed over the entire corridor must be within the speed limit.
