About This Location
Glenbrook Road runs through rural Franklin in south Auckland, carrying around 10,000 vehicles a day and connecting to SH22. The speed limit here was dropped from 100 km/h to 80 km/h in 2020 after a string of head-on crashes, and the camera followed soon after. It's been controversial. Between 2019 and 2023, police issued over $3.3 million in fines on Glenbrook and Glenbrook-Waiuku Roads, a 343% jump from 2019 to 2021. But OIA data showed deaths and serious injuries stayed stubbornly high, with alcohol and drugs causing far more crashes than speeding on this stretch. Locals in the Franklin area haven't been shy about their frustration, and in 2024 several cameras in the area were pushed over or damaged, with one appearing to have been shot at with a firearm. NZTA responded by installing motion-detecting CCTV at the Glenbrook camera site to deter further vandalism.

This is an average speed (point-to-point) camera in the Auckland region. It works with a partner camera to calculate your average speed over a distance. Unlike spot speed cameras, you cannot simply slow down at the camera location -- your average speed over the entire corridor must be within the speed limit.
