About This Location

Pine Valley Road in Dairy Flat got its average speed cameras in April 2026, part of NZTA's wider rollout of 17 point-to-point sites across the country. This is Camera A, the entry point, positioned near where Pine Valley Road meets Kahikatea Flat Road. From here the system times how long you take to reach Camera B further down the road and works out your average speed over that stretch, rather than clocking you at a single point. NZTA chose this corridor after a June 2024 speed survey found around 74% of drivers exceeding the 80 km/h limit, with average speeds creeping close to 90 km/h. Between 2018 and 2023, three crashes here left people with serious, potentially life-changing injuries. Initial construction started the week after April 30, 2025, with underground power, foundations and a protective barrier going in before the poles and camera heads followed later in the year. NZTA expects average speed cameras like this one to cut deaths and serious injuries by around 48%, based on overseas evidence and early results from Auckland's first site on Matakana Road.

How This Camera Works

This is an average speed (point-to-point) camera in the Auckland region. It works with a partner camera to calculate your average speed over a distance. Unlike spot speed cameras, you cannot simply slow down at the camera location -- your average speed over the entire corridor must be within the speed limit.
